GOING FOR GOLD - 15/01/2013

One of our year 11 students, Matthew Domville, has recently achieved a gold medal at the ASA North West Championships in the 200m Butterfly event, and has also recently qualified for the 2013 ASA National Championships in July. The national championships are of the very highest standard and reserved for the national elite.

Matthew currently ranks 1st in Cheshire and 5th in Great Britain in the 200m Butterfly event, and hopes to represent his country in the 2016 Olympics in Rio. Obviously none of this comes easily and he trains 18 hours a week in the Warrington Warriors national elite squad (8 hours of which is early morning training at 05:15). In an average week he swims 50 km or more and spends many hours in the gym.

Matthew deserves this success as he works tremendously hard, not only in training, but also in school. He epitomises the ethos of the Academy.
